Underground Catalog

The Underground is an OOC system for purchasing miscellaneous items unsuitable for any other board. Each category is sectioned by a separate header above its relevant tabs. Rules must be read prior to perusing its applicable items.

To make a purchase, create a new thread in the Underground listing the item(s) desired then post in Invocation to alert staff. Staff will deduct payment from whichever account you utilized to post your order.
You may not use an IC account to purchase items for a separate IC account without a valid IC reason, such as a fair business transaction. Characters are expected to earn their money rightfully; for example, investing effort into only one of your characters to accumulate mass wealth to fund your other characters is considered an unfair advantage. Each character must collect their money independently.
Purchased items are added to your "inventory," located as a pop-up link under the "items" tab in your mini-profile. Your inventory acts as storage for inactive items, which have no current effect and can still be easily traded, sold, or gifted, as they remain in their whole and untouched form.
When you are prepared to activate an item, post in Invocation and staff will move the selected item(s) to your "applied items" field, a secondary list under your mini-profile's "items" tab. Your applied items have a current effect; for example, if a sensory power is present in your applied items, then your character can actually perform that ability. A few items are simply removed from your inventory upon activation and are not added to your applied items because they only have a single use. For example, when a stat upgrade bundle item is activated, the account's stats are increased and the item is considered spent.
If you have multiple of the same item, they will appear only once in your inventory and applied items, showing their quantity when you hover your cursor over them. Each item also includes its description upon hovering, either in full or summarized format if the catalog description is lengthy. Lastly, each item's hover will display which board is the item's source.
Items present in your applied items listing can still be traded, sold, or gifted, but they require you to first post in Invocation to move them back into your inventory. You must also remove any effects they caused if applicable, such as appearance features made through "functional." When finished, you may then resume the planned exchange of goods once the item is whole in your inventory again. You may not return single-use items to your inventory once they have been applied, such as "offspring condition."
Although your applied items are displayed in your mini-profile, it is not guaranteed a fellow roleplayer will notice and there may be occasional mistakes. For example, if your horse is protected by "capture immunity," a human may still accidentally attempt to capture your horse. When such misunderstandings occur, please politely inform the unaware roleplayer of your item's current effect so that their post may be edited or removed or their mistake may be otherwise rectified. If any issues arise, contact a staff member through Invocation or Grievances if preferred, which is a private board where only the thread creator and head administrator are privy to its posts.
The cost of an item represents general Alcrystan currency and permits both spirits and coins.

Capture Immunity

Protects a wild horse from any human attempting to capture them for 14 days per item application. This item can be stacked to cover a longer, uninterrupted duration. When you activate this item, staff will post a timer in your Invocation thread with the total amount of weeks your character will be protected, using the label "timer." Once expired, your capture immunity is removed from your applied items and staff will archive the Invocation thread.

Event Target

Select 1 IC thread in any board to activate a random staff event. Though you choose which thread the event occurs within, the event itself is still decided by staff. Events range from negative outcomes, such as weather catastrophes or a predator attack, to positive outcomes, such as money raining from the sky or the suns shining beautiful spotlights on the participating characters.

Force Claim Immunity

Protects a wild horse from any force claim attempts for 14 days per item application. This item can be stacked to cover a longer, uninterrupted duration. When you activate this item, staff will post a timer in your Invocation thread with the total amount of weeks your character will be protected, using the label "timer." Once expired, your force claim immunity is removed from your applied items and staff will archive the Invocation thread.

Height Increase

Exceed normal character height restrictions. Horses may increase their height by 0.1 hands per item with a maximum height of 25.0 hh. Humans may increase their height by 1 inch per item with a maximum height of 12'0 feet.

Herd Capacity Increase

Increase the default maximum capacity of your herd by 1 horse per item with a total limit of 30. While this item may be purchased by any account type, it can only be applied by the herd's Domitan or Mattrice. Herd capacity increases must be recorded in the herd's Syndicate thread.

Insurance

Allows 4 system mistakes without penalty for 30 days upon activation, such as neglecting to feed your tamed horse. This can cover the possible mistakes for owners of tamed horses, stables, inns, and farms as detailed in their systems. This item can be stacked to cover a longer, uninterrupted duration, though the number of mistakes per 30 days do not stack. Therefore, if you apply 3 insurance items at once, you will be allowed 4 mistakes per 30 days for a consistent stretch of 90 days; as they do not combine, a 5th mistake will always be penalized. When you activate your insurance, staff will make a new stickied and locked thread in the relevant board with a timer counting the number of protected days. Notify staff through Invocation when your timer expires so they may archive the thread and remove the insurance item(s) from your applied items. 1 item per system.

Offspring Amount

Choose how many children your character will birth or sire from one pregnancy with a limit of 3 per item. If more than 3 foals or 5 human children are birthed at once, there must be a reasonable IC explanation to accommodate the dam's anatomy; for example, a reptilian horse laying small eggs.

Offspring Condition

Choose if your character's offspring will be born alive or stillborn. If born alive, they are healthy by default but you may add a disability, disorder, illness, or other disadvantage at your own discretion for free. 1 item per child.

Revival

Revive your deceased character from the Malefic Catacomb or Abeyant Spire. You cannot revive your deceased character until 7 days have passed since their death thread's creation date. 10 random overall stats will be deducted from their account upon revival. A staff member will roll a dice to determine the results: first, they roll a dice with 8 faces to choose a field. The dice faces correspond to the order they appear in the mini-profile, from top left to bottom right. For example, dice face 6 is stealth. Next, they roll a second dice with 5 faces to determine how many stats will be subtracted from the resulting field. If there are any stats leftover, the process is repeated until all 10 stats have been removed. This item is separate from the equine rebirthing system. 1 item per death.

All character appearances are permitted on Alcryst. However, appearances with offensive, defensive, or evasive features or that otherwise lend an advantageous ability must be purchased through this item. Purely aesthetic features are free. If uncertain, post in Inquisitions with your desired appearance and staff will assist in dissecting which components need a functional item, if any.
These questions can assist in determining if a functional item is needed:

Does your character's appearance lend it any advantage?
Does it allow your character to fight, guard, or escape easier?
Does it affect other characters in any way that might impede them?
Does it grant your character a beneficial capability that their basic species lacks?

If functional is needed, its quantity is best deduced by considering each total function rather than the number of physical masses involved. If multiple features serve the same purpose, they are likely considered 1 item because they do not act independently and do not provide individual advantages. Rather than viewing it as 1 item per function, it is more closely explained as 1 item per function it serves.
The following are some features that would require a functional item along with their explanations. This is not a comprehensive list but rather a few examples to illustrate the logic behind this complex, subjective item:

Wings. If your wings are for aesthetic choices and are incapable of actual flight, they are free. However, you will need to apply 1 functional item if your character intends to fly. A sole item can encompass multiple wings because they are only serving 1 function despite having independent appendages. Whether your character has 2 wings or 4 wings, the ability granted is simply flight, which is a single function.
Horns/Spikes. If your horns are too dull or brittle to effectively stab into standard flesh, they are free. For your horn, antler, spike, spine, or other similar protrusion to be sharp and strong enough to use offensively, they require 1 functional item per general mass. For example, a cluster of 5 horns on your character's head are a single item as they would form a joint effect were your character to ram their horns into another body. Likewise, another cluster of spikes on your character's shoulder would require a 2nd functional item as they would be used with a different offensive movement.
Tail. Tails abnormal to your character's basic species anatomy, such as a horse with a lion's tail, are free unless they include an unusual offensive or defensive feature, such as barbs or the ability to climb.
Scales. Soft, malleable scales such as snakeskin or fishscales are free, as they do not provide any additional defense. Hard scales such as a dragon's require 1 functional item for an overall body, as they enhance your character's skin protection.
Auras. Most auras are free, such as glowing body parts or nostrils emitting steam. Auras only require a functional item when their purpose lends an advantage, such as dense fog that can help shroud your character or heavy smoke that can cause difficulty breathing.
Eyes. It is uncommon for eyes to require a functional item, even if they lack pupils or your character boasts several eyes. One instance which would require a functional item is if multiple eyes allowed your character to look in opposing directions at the same time.
Fangs/Talons. Almost all fangs/talons require a functional item unless they are unusually dull or brittle despite their pointed shape. 1 functional item would permit any number of fangs present in your character's mouth, as they all contribute to a single bite. Likewise, 1 functional item covers all talons per hand or paw, as all claws on the hand/paw would contribute to a single swipe.

Functional item applications cannot provide any offense against armor from Heliorne or a blacksmith and cannot provide any defense against weapons or horseshoes made by blacksmiths. However, functional additions can prove invaluable against average characters and can significantly improve your character's prowess depending on the strategy behind their design.
Functional features must be approved by administration via Inquisitions to ensure your proposal is not unreasonably powerful; most features will require some form of disadvantage, drawback, or limitation. The more powerful a functional feature is, the more severe its counterbalances must be. Administration will commonly need to negotiate a proper system of advantageous ability and acceptable counterbalances; this is not personal or abnormally restrictive and may be a time-consuming process. Furthermore, administration will check that your proposal is unique enough to avoid encroaching on the creativity of other existing characters or the default site systems like the sensory powers. While some functional features may be replicated by many characters because they are traditional concepts that no particular member can claim they invented, such as 2 heads, others will involve more original ideas that took extensive effort and brainstorming to conceive. The more unexpected, fresh, and one-of-a-kind a functional feature is designed, the more it is naturally patented by the site.
You may apply functional features upon your character's creation or at a later date. If planning to list a functional item in your biography, first discuss your intention through Inquisitions prior to writing its information to avoid wasted time. If you cannot afford a functional item but it is necessary to your character's initial appearance, you may include a note in your biography that the item will be later purchased and wait to roleplay your character until are able to buy the needed item(s). You are welcome to use Emulation to acquire the proper funds. If you later apply a functional feature to your character, you may decide the IC reason for their transformation. For example, it may be an unexpected blessing from the gods, a stage in their anatomical maturity, a random mutation, or any other source preferred.
Functional features are finalized through Inquisitions but officially recorded in a sub-board of Certification, fully detailing the power and its counterbalances. The link to your functional record thread is then added to your account's mini-profile for easy reference.

Grant your contribution a special offensive, defensive, or evasive feature or an aspect that otherwise lends an advantageous ability. For example, a companion creature's spit causing acidic burns; a human race with the ability to summon hurricanes; a horse breed with plated scales that can only be penetrated by purchased offenses, such as functional, another contribution specialty, or weapons. Unlike the item "functional," contribution specialties apply to all participants within the contribution and are generally more powerful than the functional item can achieve alone.
Contribution specialties must be approved by the head administrator via Inquisitions to ensure your proposal is not unreasonably powerful. Please submit your proposal prior to writing its information in your contribution to avoid wasted time. Furthermore, the head administrator will check that your proposal is unique enough to avoid encroaching on the creativity of other existing contributions or the default site systems like the sensory powers. While some specialties may be replicated by many contributions because they are traditional concepts that no particular member can claim they invented, such as controlling water, others will involve more original ideas that took extensive effort and brainstorming to conceive. The more unexpected, fresh, and one-of-a-kind a specialty is designed, the more it is naturally patented by the site.
Specialties can be applied upon creation or at a later date. If later applying a contribution specialty when there are already participants, they may retroactively gain the new effect(s). Specialty details are recorded in the contribution's thread.

Sensory Powers

Sensory powers are a variety of magical abilities separated into 6 different functions: hearing, speaking, moving, smelling, touching, and seeing. Each category contains 4 levels of powers related to its relevant sense, thus resulting in 24 possible powers.
In order to apply a power, you must meet its stat prerequisites. These are a certain number of minimum stats your character must have reached in their constitution field and a secondary field that varies by category.
Power levels 2-4 cannot be equipped unless all preceding levels of the same category are already applied. Therefore, you must have levels 1 and 2 applied before you may activate level 3.
Sensory powers are open to both equine and humanoid characters.
You must include an OOC note in each post where your character first uses their power in a thread, declaring its official activation and the power's name.
Some alchemical potions and Vapid Fen protection tiers can negate sensory powers. Each power also has a physical weakness, as they are dependent on your faculties which may be compromised, as listed at the top of each tab.

Reverberation

Emit sound waves inaudible to others that vibrate off nearby objects. This echolocation allows your character to identify the texture, shape, distance, and size of anything tangible before them. You cannot distinguish individual aspects of a single mass, such as a hidden weapon on a human form.

Amplify

Control the intensity of your hearing and greatly increase its potential sensitivity. Your character can hear all sounds occurring within threads where they are present, beginning with the time of their 1st post until their departure. Other than dialogue, amplified noises includes heartbeats, rustling, footsteps, clinking metal, fabric shifting, and other subtleties normally ignored or silent to your average ear. You must provide a realistic explanation for your character's presence in that location, particularly if the thread is in private property or is otherwise difficult to access.

Espial

Fuse your hearing to a specific space. You will be able to hear all sounds that occur within the espial bug's vicinity even when absent. To activate an espial bug, create a thread in your chosen board roleplaying your character casting a mental net on their surrounding area. You must provide a realistic explanation for your character's presence in that location, particularly if the board is private property or otherwise difficult to access. If the board is owned by a character, such as a personal estate or stable, then you must wait 24 hours before the bug is considered successfully planted. During this period, the owner of the board can intervene. As the owner cannot sense that you are planting a bug, any intervention must be rationally explained, such as reacting to you trespassing. If the owner responds, you have 24 hours to make another post countering how your character still manages to plant the bug, if possible. If the owner does not respond in 24 hours or if you are able to effectively plant your bug despite their presence, then you are successful. Your thread will remain until your bug is removed. Your character can then hear all dialogue in any 1 thread that is created after your bug was planted within the chosen board. To pick which thread your character has overheard, make an OOC post in the selected thread revealing your espial bug to the roleplayers of that interaction. The involved characters remain unaware of the bug. Include a link to the thread where your character cast their mental net. You may reveal your bug at any point during the thread prior to its archival and are still privy to dialogue in the thread's preceding posts. You may plant 1 bug once a week and must activate it within 7 days or it will expire. Post in Invocation to have your original bug thread archived if you use the power or if the 7 days expire.

Telesthesia

Read the minds closest to you. Your character may hear all thoughts and observations explicitly written by the target's roleplayer in a thread where both characters are present. Emotions are not detectable beyond context clues in the phrasing and content of the target's thoughts. You may read the mind of 1 character per post. Mind-reading cannot cross species. Your character can also sense any other character's likes and dislikes as detailed in their biographies, in any thread where they both are present. For sensing likes/dislikes, there are no limitations on the frequency or species.

if your vocals are compromised, your powers will fail

Sonic

Boost the volume and reach of your voice, permitting you to speak loud enough for all to hear within the thread and also allowing you to expel acoustic blasts that can propel objects outward. Other characters within the thread will be stunned and experience temporary deafness for 1 post after a sonic blast. You may use your sonic blast once per thread but there are no limitations on making your voice louder.

Mimicry

Imitate the voice of any character you have interacted with on Alcryst. You cannot anticipate their normal phrasing choices, but your pitch and delivery are identical to how the sounds roll from their own tongue. When impersonating a character, you must link to their IC account so other roleplayers can easily identify which voice you are using. You may only mimic 1 character's voice per thread for any amount of posts and they do not need to be present. Your character is capable of switching between their regular voice and the impersonating voice as desired.

Translation

Speak audibly with any species. There are no telepathic connections. This allows conversation between horses and humans and also permits companions to speak aloud for their exchange. Both are able to understand and be understood, subconsciously translating their words seamlessly. The participants do not automatically comprehend each other's unknown vocabulary without explanation, such as a human referencing a household object or a horse referencing herd ranks. Only 1 character needs to have the translation power to enable a conversation with another species. There are no limitations on frequency.

Suggestion

Infuse your vocals with an underlying compulsion. This form of hypnotism embeds a specific desire in the target's mind, causing a mental urge to complete an action you have chosen. If resisted, the itch grows stronger and more urgent, eventually leading to pain and the inability to focus. Your character may induce a suggestion by speaking to the target and detailing exactly which action is desired; implications are not valid and loopholes may be utilized by the target if any exist. The urge will remain active in any new threads created after it is planted. The action you suggest may not explicitly demand any harm to the target or another character's health. Your character can revoke a suggestion at any time by posting in Invocation and tagging the target's IC and OOC accounts so they are aware that the power has been deactivated. If nullified, the urge will expire in all threads. You may only have 1 suggestion active at a time.

if your motor control is compromised, your powers will fail

Glamour

Appear to make a particular movement when you are making a different movement in reality. For example, humans could cast an illusion that their arms are peacefully crossed when their hand is actually gripping a weapon at their side. This deception is fixed to your body rather than the viewer's mind; therefore, all characters in the thread will see the same illusion. The illusion is intangible and your disguised movements can still be felt. You may only falsify movements from where you stand, such as where your head is turned, your body's angle, or the position of your limbs. You may not cast an illusion that your entire body is in a different location than it truly is, such as a holograph of yourself in front of another character while you are actually behind them.

Liquify

Choose to lose all rigidity as if every bone is removed, warping like liquid to avoid strikes, fit through impossible crevices, and move with free flexibility. While in a fully liquified state, you are unable to be harmed but are also limited to traveling by sliding along any surface at any angle; you cannot use your hands, attack, hold items, speak, or otherwise engage. You are also able to stretch yourself across any distance and contort into any shape. You may stretch and contort yourself without limit. You may fully liquify once per thread for as many posts as desired.

Passage

Phase through any object, shifting like vapor. If you pass through a living specimen, they will be paralyzed for 1 post after you solidify. You may slip through walls, floors that have multiple levels, even the mountainside into a tunnel. You may only pass through 1 object per post. While you may pass through every character in a thread without limit on quantity, you may only pass through each individual once per thread.

Dissolution

Dissolve yourself to travel through the air to any location in Alcryst. This permits you to enter private properties and other boards that are difficult to access. You cannot be harmed while dissolved nor can other characters interfere with your path. While dissolved, you appear as a fine, transparent mist.

smelling
if your sinuses are compromised, your powers will fail

Foreshadow

Smell any approaching danger. If a roleplayer writes an ill intention toward your character in a thread where you are both present, your character will immediately smell danger. Everyone experiences a different scent for the foreshadow power, some smelling the odor as sulfur, others yet detecting smoke, and other endless varieties. The threat can be identified by tracking the stench to its source. The pungency varies based on the severity of the threat, from pranks to assassinations, thus allowing your character to gauge their risk.

Tracer

Track any character you have interacted with on Alcryst. When activating a tracer, the target releases a strong scent that leaves trails across the land wherever they have traveled. Your character does not know their automatic current location but rather smells their path and can follow their footsteps. In order to trace their journey, click on the account's recent posts to find each IC thread they have posted within since the date you most recently gained their scent. You must write a post in each board where the target's recent threads occurred describing your character's hunt. You must provide a realistic explanation for your character's presence in that location, particularly if the board is private property or otherwise difficult to access. If making a standalone post with no intention of further roleplaying, post in Invocation to inform staff so they may archive your thread. Once you have posted in each relevant board, you may join any of the target's current IC threads as having tracked them down successfully. Include an OOC note with a link to each of your tracking posts. Your character may only retain 1 scent at a time and cannot switch to a new scent without first interacting and learning it, even if it was previously acquired.

Clairvoyance

Detect a variety of fragrances depicting the current mood of other characters. Each feeling has its own unique scent, interpreted differently by each individual. Some clairvoyants may smell sadness as brimstone, others as fresh rain--each have their own personal palette. Your clairvoyant can smell the overall mood of every character in a thread where they are present, based on the descriptions written by each roleplayer in their posts. You cannot sense the source or fine details, just the basic emotional tone of their present mental state. You may only focus on 1 character's emotional scent per post.

Chronicle

Inhale a character's essence and learn their history. When interacting with another character, you may choose to activate your chronicle power to absorb their history, as detailed in their biography. Your character will only gain knowledge of events written by the roleplayer. You may target 1 character's history per post.

if your nervous system is compromised, your powers will fail

Seismograph

Sense any approaching figures through minute vibrations in the ground. You can deduce the incomer's exact location through the severity and direction of the tremors. Even while unconscious or distracted, your instincts will always alert you to their arrival unless you have chosen to silence your inner alarms. Your mental seismograph will activate long before the new arrival comes within eyesight and can continue to detect their steps throughout your interaction.

Attachment

Plant false feelings into another character by touching them. You may only affect the target's feelings toward your own character. While you may not alter their existing opinions of your character, you can create additional feelings; for example, if the target hates your character and becomes infused with false love, they will experience an intense, confusing conflict of the opposing emotions. If the target has knowledge that the feelings are fabricated, the sensation does not lose any of its emotional impact regardless of logic. Replicate

Temporarily receive another character's energy ability or sensory power. The target must be present in the same thread as your character and their power is duplicated by touching them; this does not remove their own magic but merely clones it briefly. You may only replicate the separated version of an energy ability or a level 3 or lower sensory power. You may replicate sensory powers even if you do not have their lower levels but you must meet their stat prerequisites. Your character may replicate 1 power per thread for any amount of posts.

Aegis

Turn any inanimate or living object indestructible, capable of warding off all forms of physical and magical affronts. Aegis is activated through touch, requiring your character to maintain skin contact to ensure its duration remains uninterrupted. Weapons of any damage value and powers of any strength cannot penetrate an aegis, including the visual level 4 power "fissure." You may only turn 1 single mass into a shield at a time.

Focus

Magnify your vision and sharpen the fine details previously invisible. You can zoom your vision across any unobstructed distance within a thread where your character is present and can witness any visible action explicitly written by another character's roleplayer in their post, no matter its subtlety. You must provide a realistic explanation for your character's presence in that location, particularly if the thread is in private property or is otherwise difficult to access.

Prerequisites: 25 constitution, 25 agility

Bypass

Shift your vision through any barrier, seeing beyond it or even scrutinizing parts of the object itself. For example, you might look through a person to see behind them or you might peer specifically underneath their cloak to search for hidden weapons. You may only see through 1 single mass per post.

Projection

Summon an apparition into the real world, a harmless holograph that appears flawlessly realistic. The mirage is intangible and can range from lone forms to full surrounding scenes. The illusion is witnessed by all characters within the thread, including the caster. Your character can control the illusion throughout its duration, causing it to move, speak, or otherwise evolve. It can be maintained for any length of time but only 1 projection can manifest per post.

Prerequisites: 100 constitution, 100 agility

Fissure

Discharge rays of pinpoint light from your irises, beams of scalding heat that can easily slice through any physical or magical defense. Armor of any defense value and powers of any strength cannot protect against fissure with the single exception of the tactile level 4 power "aegis." Flammable material, such as fabric or hair, will ignite within moments beneath your gaze. Your fissure beam can be redirected by bouncing off resilient reflective surfaces, such as diamond; though the reflective surface will shatter or melt quickly, it can be temporarily utilized to manipulate the light's path as desired.

Automatically heal any ailment diagnosed through the Torrid Cauldron, Delphic Provenance, or a verterinarian, negating the need for any treatment posts or completed threads.
