Floyd was not a magnificent bird. It was a bird you’d turn your head to have a second look at, yes, but that was only because it arose some less than positive emotions in people. It usually smelled like rotten flesh and it’s breath was even worse, not to mention it’s need to poo everywhere. No, there was not much about Floyd that was good, but that was why Cesare liked it so much. It almost reminded him of himself, only as a bird, as he too had a habit of making people show their darker side. It was good not to be alone.
The bird had not done much during the converstion, as it had been good at keeping itself busy by checking it’s feather and making sure it looked the best it could, but when Talen slapped his hand down, it’s spooked and cried out. It sounded like someone tried to drown a kitten, so Cesare closed it’s beak and held it in his hand without taking his eyes off The King. Nothing moved in those blue eyes, not even a flicker of concern or fear. The man seemed dead already, only his steady breathing showed that he was indeed alive.
Then, slowly he opened his hand and let the bird regain the use of it’s beak. It wobbled slightly as he got to his feet, but quickly got it’s footing again. For a moment he lingered, not looking at anything or anyone, before he again focused at Talen who had reached the door. “I should save you the trouble and do it myself. Or are you looking forward to it?”
