[PTab=Capturing Horses]

Any Untamed Horse over the age of 8 can be captured but only if they are in an Outskirts board. Horses in the Wilderness cannot be captured. Horses can also achieve Immunity from the Agrarian Ruins in Wryweb.
To attempt to capture an Untamed Horse, your Human character must post in a thread the target is present in. They can interrupt any thread, whether it just started or is halfway through, whether it is a normal roleplay thread or a Lure.
Your post must include 200-400 words detailing your Human interrupting whatever interaction is occurring and how they attempt to wrangle the Horse. Rule-adhering powerplay may be used. You need to provide thorough detail and logic behind every action and attempt to block any way the roleplayer could write their Horse escaping. Remember that Horses are a natural predator of Humans and overcoming one will not likely be easy.
In your post, you must tag the IC and OOC Account of the Horse you are attempting to capture so they receive proper notification. You must also label the thread "Capture." Then, post in Invocation. The Horse's roleplayer has 7 days to respond, after which time they forfeit their Horse and the capture is considered successful. The scenario up to this point is explained by example here.
The Horse's response can either be 1) a forfeit of the Horse, IC or OOC, generally due to plot purposes (find a thorough example here) or 2) your Horse attempting to escape the capture. If you choose the former, the capture is then complete, and all you need to do is post in Invocation for staff to verify its success. If you choose the latter, you need to explain every way your Horse avoided the capture attempt given in the Human's post. If you cannot defend against every action from the Human, meaning you cannot explain how your Horse escaped, your Horse is forfeit. When your post is finished, post in Invocation for staff to judge your response.
If your logic is deemed ironclad and an effective way to escape the Human, staff will rule it free and the capture attempt unsuccessful, as you can read in this example. If they feel your post does not warrant an escape, they will deem the wrangler successful. If the Horse is a Rogue, they now belong to the Human, which is explained in this example. However, if they are a Herd Member, any members of their Herd can post to intervene within 3 days after the staff's post. If they can post explaining how they intervened and helped the Horse escape, they can free the Horse.
Should no Herd Members post within the 3 days, such as here, the Horse is officially Tamed by the Human. If they do post in time, then staff must be alerted via Invocation to deem if the post(s) are adequate for the escape, as ruled by logic. If approved, the Horse is free and the capture attempt unsuccessful, such as this. If found unfit, the Horse is captured and belongs to the Human, like this.
If you feel your Horse or a Horse from your Herd was captured unfairly, message the Administrator. Though chances are the ruling was fair, all appeals will be heard and may be overturned if the Administrator feels anything was incorrect about the judging.

[PTab=Escaping Captivity]

Tamed Horses can escape from their Owners after 2 weeks have passed since their domestication was made official, as marked by the Ownership Papers in our Certification board.
Freedom is bought as an item in the Underground, called Release, or can be masterminded through artful writing. If you can craft a situation, with the ability to employ powerplay, to design a scenario with no other possible outcome besides your escape, you can return to the wild. This can be a difficult endeavor. The Horse's roleplayer would need to explain every step to their escape; for example, if they reared, how can they guarantee that overthrew their rider? If they did manage to explain it, how can they account for avoiding any retaliation, such as a rope slung after them? If they can explain that, how did the Horse get through any scenery obstacles, such as fences, other Humans, an entire town, etc.?
Your escape attempt can occur in any thread your Horse is in, even if the Owner is not present. Once your post is made, you must then label the thread "Escape," tag both the IC and OOC Account of the Owner, and post in Invocation for staff. The Owner has 7 days to respond trying to block the escape attempt. If they do not post within 7 days, the Horse is deemed free. If they do post, they must then alert staff via Invocation so they can judge.
If staff decides the Owner did not effectively block the Horse's escape attempt, the Horse is free. If they judge the escape attempt thwarted, the Horse remains Tamed and owned by the Human.
If a Horse escapes from captivity 15 or more times, they will receive the prestigious Escape Artist badge in their Mini-Profile and Profile.

[PTab=Maintaining Horses]

Owners can buy items for their Tamed Horses but cannot apply them without corresponding roleplayer's consent.
Neither the Owner's roleplayer or the Horse's roleplayer can control each other's actions. If the Horse wants to act up, has a preference toward another character, attempts to escape, or behaves any other way, that is up to their roleplayer. The Human trying to breed them with another Horse, entering them in a contest, trying to ride them, boarding them in a Stable, feeding them, and all other actions are the Owner's decision.
The same roleplayer cannot play both the Owner and the Tamed Horse.
Tamed Horses cannot leave a city without their Owner's consent, which can be given in a variety of ways but must be distinct IC. It would not make sense for a Tamed Horse to roleplay randomly in the Wilderness, but it would if the Human accompanied them or perhaps trusted them enough to set them free to wander. If you can explain it reasonably, your Tamed Horse can then partake in the IC Interactive boards of the Wilderness and Outskirts.
Tamed Horses must be kept in a stall in a Stable or in your personal barn if you have built a residence with a barn attachment. If you cannot keep them housed, they will be automatically taken from you and freed back into the wild by staff members. If you choose an inadequate Stable that fails to properly maintain their stalls and occupants, such as not changing bedding, you are held just as responsible as the Stable Owner and may have your Tamed Horse revoked, as you are capable of monitoring your Horse's treatment and relocating them if necessary.
Each stall in a Stable receives its own sub-board and a staff-created, stickied thread. Within this thread, information is recorded to maintain the Horse's health: the last time it ate and next time it will need to eat, the last times its bedding was changed and the next time it will need to be changed, the last time it was groomed and the next time it will need to be groomed, who owns it, forms, and a link to the Ownership papers.
You must feed your Horse(s) by filling out the form found in the stickied thread in their stall and posting it there. Once you've posted, you need to also post in Invocation to ensure staff know and can update the first post in the thread with the new dates. Food can be acquired as Cattle from a Farm in Emporium's Hacienda or as fish sold, traded, or given away by a Fisherman. How frequently you must feed the Horse depends on the food you have given them. One meal will last a single day. They must be fed any time between 1 day prior to the date in the first post and 1 day after, giving you a 3-day span where they can be fed.
Horses must also be groomed by their Owner with items purchased from Emporium's Galleria once a week. Each item must be used to complete a full grooming and need only to be purchased once; they can be used for all of your Horses. To groom your Horse, post during the 3-day span (1 day before the given date in the first post, the actual date, and 1 day after the given date) in the stickied thread within their stall using the form found there. Once you've finished grooming your horse, post in Invocation so staff can update the first post accordingly.
Feeding them before or after this period is considered neglect and, if it occurs within Faewin, you may face prosecution IC due to their Laws. Failing to groom them within this span is also considered neglect. If you do not feed the Horse during the span, their Constitution stat will drop 10%. If you miss another week, another 5% is removed and Starvation is added to their Ailment field. A third week missed will cause staff members to remove the Horse from your care and set it free. If you fail to groom your Horse in time, their Constitution stat will drop 5% each week until, on the third week, the Horse is removed from your care and released.
If you are Away, there are a few people who can take over grooming and feeding your Horse: the Stable Owner, the Stable's Stablehand, the Stable's Veterinarian, or a designated Caretaker. Stables do not have to accommodate your Away status, it is merely an option for them. It is suggested to get them under contract if they offer to take care of your Horse while you are Away, as that is the only way they are considered obligated by Alcrystan law. Caretakers can be any Human Character who agrees to take over for you while you're Away, though they, like the Stable, have no obligation without an official contract. Stables and Caretakers alike may require compensation for their time. Your Away status is only valid if it follows all rules outlined in Voids.

[PTab=Broodmares and Studs]

Studs and Broodmares are stallions and mares that are registered for the specific purpose of reproduction. They must be recorded in the appropriate Almanac thread. While any Horse has the opportunity to become a Stud/Broodmare, they do have requirements to meet, explained below.
The Horse must be at least 8, which is the age at which breeding is allowed. They cannot be neutered. They must have at least 10 Stats in every field. They must be officially Trained and have been a Tamed Horse for at least one Alcrystan year (1 month). They cannot have any genetic disability (i.e. blindness) or notable temperament issues, to ensure their breeding is supreme. They cannot be starved or neglected at any point, otherwise their status is revoked, as they are not in peak health conditions.
While the above are mandatory requirements, there are many secondary criteria that generally influence a customer's decision. Some of these include an appealing appearance, a good temperament, high stats, and other factors, but one of the largest in play are the Horse's achievements. These achievements might be contests won, special skills, awards, etc.
Studs and Broodmares pass on 1 stat to their offspring for every 10 of their own. Therefore, if both the Stud and Broodmare have 20 stats each, their foal will have 4 stats upon birth, whereas a normal newborn will not have any stats. This it not rounded up, so if one parent has 20 stats and the second has only 19, then the offspring will have 3.
Which stats the foal receives is based on its parents' highest stats. If the dam and sire both have the same highest stat, then the foal will receive the majority of its stats in that field. If the dam and sire have different highest stats, the foal's stats will mainly be split between those two. If the dam and sire do not have a highest stat but rather a blend of all, then the foal's stats are distributed mainly at random.
Studs and Broodmares also have no chance of producing a stillborn foal or one with any type of disability or disfigurement. Additionally, if both parents are registered, then their conception is guaranteed.
Foals birthed by both a Stud and Broodmare together are the only characters that can be born with Powers, which must be otherwise purchased in the Underground. If both the parents have the same power upgraded to at least level 3, then the foal is guaranteed the first level of that power. If only one parent has the power of at least level 3, then the foal will only receive it if a dice roll turns up with a 1 out of 2 faces. Theoretically, the foal could receive the first level of every power if its parents meet the requirements.
Studs and Broodmares are part of the breeding industry, producing foals worth buying but also providing Horses that customers will pay to have their own Horses bred with. Their appeal comes namely from their benefits and prestige and the more the Horse can offer in terms of perks (high stats, many powers of at least level 3, etc.) then the more the Horse's breedings can be sold for. Solicitation can occur IC, through our Classifieds section, and/or in our IC Newsletter. Some stables may specialize in breeding.

[PTab=Birthing]

Any foal born in captivity belongs to the dam's Owner until it is weaned at age 1, so it can properly feed from its dam. During this time it does not need to be fed by the Owner but it does need to be groomed and have its bedding changed by the Stable. It must be kept around its dam to be fed and if staff find them constantly separated, you may be charged with neglect and the foal's ailment reduced to Starvation. A foal who is found to be starving is immediately freed, along with its dam, due to their age.
If sired by a Stud and Broodmare together, the foal continues being a Tamed Horse after the age of 1.
If born from a Stud or a Broodmare but not both, at the age of 1 the roleplayer of the Owner must post in Invocation to have staff roll a 2-sided dice. If they roll a 1, the foal continues to be yours as a Tamed Horse. If they roll a 2, it goes free as an Untamed Horse. If you fail to post in Invocation when the foal turns 1 (remember they age 1 year per every real month) within the first week of its new age, your foal is released as an Untamed Horse.
If born from neither a Stud or a Broodmare, the foal is released as an Untamed Horse when it turns 1.
If you neglect a foal or its dam and one is released, its counterpart is released along with it so long as the foal is not yet weaned (under the age of 1).

[PTab=Energy Abilities]

When a Human and Horse join, it completes the part of their soul broken from their separation. This fulfillment of their spirit's desire fuels a new power, called an Energy Ability.
The Energy Ability gives both the Human and Horse a special, unique power that is weak when apart and very strong when together. When the Ownership papers are posted in Certification by staff, you can post in Invocation to begin negotiations for your Energy Ability. Both the Human and Horse's roleplayer need to post in the thread and, with staff, come to an agreed power along with what it is when apart and what it is when together. For example, both can breathe sparks when they are apart but if they post in the same thread and are thus together, they can breathe a full flame.
Once all 3 parties agree on the Energy Ability, it is added to the Mini-Profile and Profile of both the Human and Horse. So long as the Horse belongs to that Owner, their power is intact. However, if the Horse leaves that Owner's possession, whether it becomes wild again or is transferred to another Owner, both lose their power.
Energy Abilities cannot be identical to any other listed in the Almanac. Every time a Horse and Human lose their power due to separation, their Energy Ability is removed from the record and can be taken by someone else.
You cannot alter your Energy Ability once it's chosen.
If the Human has multiple Horses, they still have only one Energy Ability. The first Horse establishes their Energy Ability and any future, additional Horses will receive that Energy Ability. The only way the Human can change their Energy Ability is to relieve their Ownership over any Horse and restart with a new Horse to make a new Energy Ability.

Horses cannot be ridden if they've never been trained. Just like Earth, an unbroken Horse will, at the very least, not understand your riding cues and, at worst, violently attempt to overthrow you.
To train a Horse, you need to make at least 5 completed IC threads following these standards where you are working on training the Horse through whatever methods you prefer, from breaking their spirit to befriending them. If 5 threads are not sufficient to train the Horse, as decided by the content within the thread and the Horse's behavior, then you will need to continue their training until satisfactory.
Once all 5 (or more) threads are completed, post in Invocation so staff can verify their content. If the Horse is deemed competently trained, staff will update the Horse's Mini-Profile and Profile to indicate it. If they do not feel the Horse has been properly trained, they will inform you and ask you to continue training and post again in Invocation after further progress. This may repeat several times.
If a Horse isn't trained, that means you cannot begin entering contests, riding around, and acting like they are trained. A trained Horse does not mean it will always behave or ever behaves, it means it understands riding cues, is accustomed to tack, can theoretically be ridden.
If a Horse is already trained when you receive Ownership for it, you do not need to retrain it.
Horses must be at least 2 to begin training. Tack can be purchased from the Galleria in Emporium.

If a Tamed Horse is freed or escapes or otherwise becomes Untamed again and has been Trained, does he/she retain the "Trained" status? Meaning if they got recaptured or otherwise became a Tamed Horse again, would they have to be retrained again or does their previous Trained status cover future domestications as well?
When this question is answered, be sure to update plugin "Custom Field Modifier" > Trained with the right membergroups. Currently only tamed horses have access to being trained but if we change it so they retain their training, we'll need to add the untamed horse membergroups as well.

maintaining horses - reconsider grooming. it seems like a rule for the sake of a rule- why should they be rule forced to groom once a week? IC it's awkward. however it generates some business for galleria-- even if only one set per horse owner--and makes galleria feel even more pointless than it already does if removed. so maybe we need to make galleria feel more important and remove grooming or even keep grooming but make it more of a "if you groom, then -this- bonus happens" versus "you must groom!"

maintaining horses - definitely remove the consequence for grooming. make the starvation consequence 3% every time instead of starting at 10% and then going to 5%, that's too high. change wording to make it so they definitely get fined in faewin on the 2nd week and a warrant for their arrest issued on the 3rd week (check faewin lawbook to make sure it's the same thing there).

maintaining horses - mention that contracts are drafted by lawyers and link to their board

studs/broodmares - take away "ona alcrystan year" and make it 30 days flat

studs/broodmares - possibly remove the training requirement because a lot of broodmares have never been trained IRL

studs/broodmares - mention that horses get a membergroup if they're in this

birthing - put the first bullet into maintaining horses and delete the rest and ensure there's no mention of it elsewhere, such as in genesis, then delete the entire birthing tab

training - limit training posts to 200-400 words again

training - update that a recaptured horse (was tamed and trained, escaped, got recaptured) retains its trained status - double check how that is going to work in a mini profile, can a wild horse have "trained" in their mini pro?

maintaining horses - make it so vet/stablehand/stable owner can also feed horse, not just if the owner is away, but that caretakers can only feed them if the owner is away. make it so they feed the horse once a week, not the currently implied every 3 days, and maybe reduce the inability to "pre-feed"? so if they feed them on monday, they have to feed them by next monday at the latest and can feed them on tuesday at the earliest
consider another item that makes the meal more filling and grants an additional 3 days--could be an alchemy potion, treat, kaleidoasis retrieval, blessing, something specifically from the galleria to help make it more important, something only fish have and cattle don't to give them an additional perk (since cattle currently have the additional perk of sacrifice in the cathedral whereas fish are only fed to horses)

If wild horses can now post in cities, modify "domesticating" guide to say humans can also capture any horse that comes into a city.

- I thought that an Alcrystan year was equal to 6 months?

- My personal thoughts on this would be that they can remain trained for a specific amount of time and after a year or so they would required to be trained again. Or maybe instead of 5 training threads you would only need 2-3.

In regards to grooming, I like the idea of it being required but not once a week. So maybe you CAN groom your horse once a week, but if you don’t it’s ok. But, you can’t ride your horse or compete with it if it hasn’t been groomed. So if your horse is sitting in its stall/field for a month and you don’t groom it, no big deal. But if you go to get your horse and ride it, you’re going to have to groom it before you can do anything with it.

I agree that a lot of broodmares aren’t trained in real life (some stallions aren’t either to be fair). I do think they should be trained enough to allow safe contact with humans though, that was my only thought…

Training - is there an issue that I used the word training in bellicose discipline?

may 2018 - saccharine port links to here to go over how meals work, so put all the meal info here and then cattle & fish link here, rather than having it all explained in the hacienda as V1 did

underground sensory power says " You may only replicate the separated version of an energy ability." if that isn't worded in a way that syncs with energy abilities v2, go edit it

underground has "capture immunity" item now

allow roleplayers to own both the tamed horse and owner. reference central laws ability to roleplay with yourself. their posts must be completely separate though you may powerplay your own characters.

escaping captivity - reference how the underground has the usd exclusive item for escaping. change the underground or the domestication guide to suit each other.
for energy abilities - should add its details to their certification link, perhaps? Since they probably won't have room in their mini-profiles, same as the weapon enchantments issue. Also should link certification in their mini-profiles overall already if I haven't lol

officially decided you will have to feed every 4 days with a 48 hour grace period. therefore you can feed on day 3 or day 4, then on day 7 or day 8, etc.

For example, with this badge system I am creating where you are rewarded for the number of tamed horses you own, you would not get credit toward your badge. Like if it says you have 0 horses and you decide to use your own tamed horse, then it will still say 0 horses, you won't get +1 toward that badge requirements. Only another person's horse character would count toward your badge. I don't know what all will go into having a tamed horse - I won't be creating that system until the very last board, Atheneum, and I am currently in Emulation (in the category Extraneous). So I can't be positive on anything yet. But my current idea is: if they are excluded from all advantages/perks that you would otherwise get, then perhaps it's okay for you to own your own horse.
I'm also considering having a limit. Like your human can only own 1 or maybe 2 of your own horse characters.

So many people want to roleplay their own horse. I mean, hell, I want Talen to own my character Stryke! But I also can't let people get the shortcut of owning their horse character because it is cutting out a LOT of the difficulty that you normally have which deserves the rewards/perks. So... remove the perks and it shouldn't be a big deal. And make a limit so it should be reasonable. I think that works okay?"

milestone badge refers to it as a "capture thread," if an official term is chosen then go update that badge
talking about captures in the milestone badge - the number in the profile that records the captures you've done, it should only increase for unique tamed horse captures. not if you keep capturing the same horse. perhaps let them capture their own but it also doesn't count toward that number. uhhmm... perhaps they cannot occur simultaneously, either. If any of those rules I just stated don't become set standard rules, I may go add them back into the milestone badge specifically, then

One problem.... okay, if I decided that you can capture a horse in Recital if you want that horse to have been tamed for a while, that doesn't fix the problem of people wanting their horse to be born tamed (but not birthed on the site). Do I simply not allow that? Or do I find a workaround, such as roleplaying someone in their ancestry being captured, even if they aren't a real character? Also, can you make up a temporary NPC to capture your horse in Recital?
