There are 9 freelance occupations which do not require you to own or operate a board. Though they come without the burden, responsibility, and cost of a building, they also demand more marketing and generally require you to go to the customer. Remember that all monetary transactions will only be processed if posted in Invocation. One of the best ways to advertise your services is through our Classifieds section, word of mouth, or our IC Newsletter. Your character must be at least 36 for legal employment. They can have any amount and combination of the below occupations if they so choose but are not forced to partake in any. Each tab is a brief synopsis of its occupation's purpose to help you determine if you are interested in pursuing this field and the bottom links to the informative thread in its corresponding board. [PTabbedContent] [PTab=Alchemist] Alchemists are a vital cog in the Alcrystan machine. They provide many necessities that the Underground does not, mixing potions that can cure, protect, and transform many lives. They are the scientists and magicians striving to discover the secret to the ingredients, the rhyme and reason to the potions, and to sell, trade, and/or teach their knowledge however they please. Learn more about Alchemy here. [PTab=Fisherman] Fishermen occupy Saccharine Port, the close-knit docks of Faewin where loyalty to your brethren and a tightly-closed mouth are the laws of living. A fishing pole in hand, the shimmering waters before them, and silence their blissful companion, they live a life of freedom and defiance, daring the deceptive waters and whatever may lurk beneath them. Their fresh bounty is fed to Horses, whether it be given, sold, and/or traded, and allows them to not only feed their own mounts but to nourish the entire land. [PTab=Instructor] Those still tanned from their golden years retire to teach the new generation their skills at combat and intellect. Instructors are past gladiators, their bodies scarred and worn from their time in the colosseum, ready to equip their students with what they have learned in ways beyond brute strength. Instructors know and understand that fighting is more than a strong blow, it is cunning, wisdom, patience, humility, caution, and bravery. Tasked with taking the ferocious passion of a young warrior and molding a true gladiator from the hearth, Instructors are often viewed with respect and admiration, the symbol of Alcryst's pride. [PTab=Journalist] Breathing truth, seeking recognition, uncovering the rot burrowed beneath the surface, Journalists swim in competitive waters. Pressed by deadlines and their own determination, they provide the portal between OOC and IC worlds; the IC Newsletter. Filled with gossip, facts, and revelations, the IC Newsletter is key to connecting the spread-out points of Alcryst and allowing familiarity between those who have never met. Journalists are not only ruthless and willing to pry apart scabs to get the blood flowing, they are cunning, insightful, and privy to most any dark corner of the site. Some wear robes of honor but others may dip their quills in the ink of blackmail more frequently than they care to admit, or lean more comfortably in the direction of an offered coin. [PTab=Lawyer] Whether they are beseeching peace or stirring trouble, Lawyers have their fingers in every pocket. Though free to specialize in only one or a few fields, their general occupation spans many topics and responsibilities, from appealing unfair decisions to suing offending characters to marrying two love-bent souls together. There is more than corruption lurking behind their eyes: there is wit, cleverness, information, planning, and some might even brandish integrity. Every citizen will face a Lawyer at some point, whether by accident or intentional, and the lash--sometimes kiss--of the law in their hand. More information regarding Lawyers can be found here. [PTab=Maid] For the love of helping others or perhaps for the love of how guests seem to leave their valuables just about anywhere in an inn, Maids are there waiting to clean your room and attend to your needs. Without Maids, the streets would be paved with far more homeless and hungry wanderers, and though they tend to work a thankless job they usually find gratitude elsewhere. A tip here and there, an unwary traveler now and again, maybe even an accident down the stairs, Maids know the gossip in the kitchen and how to orchestrate the whole building. Hired to bring criminals to justice, catch escaping prisoners, usher back missing orphans, and otherwise handle the dirty deeds of Faewin, Mercenaries are renowned for their loyalty... to their coin purse. Their sword is frequently for hire, wherever it may be pointed and whomever by. Though Faewin pays them for their noble service, others may have another purpose in mind when slipping through the darkness to meet a waiting Mercenary. More information regarding Mercenaries can be found here and here. HERE [PTab=Stablehand] There is no faster way to a Horse's heart than to care for its mundane needs. The true horse whisperers of Alcryst, Stablehands are a force all their own, mastering the language of Horses as they deftly maneuver around their Owners. From mucking stalls to feeding to watching over their four-legged predators, it is often said that a Stablehand with good intentions has yet to be the victim of a hungry Horse--and while their Owners may parade about on their back, learning a Horse on the ground, in the stall, on the cross ties, and even in the fields will make riding a bond forged by magic. More information regarding Stablehands can be found here. [PTab=Veterinarian] Veterinarians deliver and preserve life while staring death quite literally in the eye. Charged with healing the broken bodies of beasts clearly eager to tear into theirs, they are adept at avoiding a kick while they feel down the leg for injury. From sickness to prevention to disfigurement, ailments of every nature are brought to the Veterinarians to investigate and cure if they can and anyone with a Horse is reliant on their medical expertise.
