I. To register, click on "profile" to the bottom right of the cbox.
II. Match your cbox name with your ooc account's display name.
III. Alcryst is home to any and all, so please refrain from ignoring or excluding guests and members or forming cliques.
IV. No IC soliciation or advertisement.
V. It is impolite to pressure someone into posting if it seems to make them uncomfortable. Err on the side of caution whenever unsure.
VI. To let someone know you posted for them, please tag them in your thread so they receive proper notification, rather than alerting them each time with the cbox.
VII. If you feel ignored, do your best to involve yourself in the conversation. Should you still seem excluded despite your true efforts, message a staff member or use our Grievances board so we can help ensure this doesn't happen again, to you or anyone else. A friendly community is important to us! Don't worry, we will always be discreet and professional.
VIII. We are all friends and certainly want to share with one another, but please keep awkward topics to more appropriate areas, like Palaver, an instant messenger, or private messaging, whenever possible. Though there's no black-and-white description, such conversations may be overly personal, particularly dark or depressive, uncomfortably vulgar, clearly one-sided or unappreciated, highly controversial like religion or politics, combative, exclusive, or otherwise cause a sense of tension.
IX. If a guest or new member has a question, try to cite sources when answering (such as a link to an official thread) or let a staff member handle it. We don't want incorrect information passed along!
X. Should a troll or troublemaker post in the cbox, ignore them and promptly message a staff member so we can ban them. It's key that you don't respond to them! That just feeds the nasty little creatures.
XI. Don't ask a staff member to perform a staff task through the cbox. Task requests should be made through Invocation. Feel free to alert staff when you first post a new Invocation thread, though, as they might've missed it.
The golden rule is simple:
Treat everyone with the respect you desire.
Don't pester, pressure, or push...
And treat everyone with a smile. :)
I. You may post any Alcryst-related promotions in the adbox. This includes but is not limited to: plots, roleplay threads, IC or OOC contests/games, occupational services, wanted ads, shop sales, art/code requests/sales, herds, guilds, and anything else that requires other members to participate or view.
II. The adbox may only be used for advertisement. You may not respond in the adbox nor may you discuss its content in the cbox. Feel free to make use of threads and PMs to converse on the topic.
III. Advertisements must be posted by the account most logically related to them. For example, a stand sale would be posted by the merchant's account.
IV. There is a limit of 1 post per collective advertisement, meaning you have 256 characters to convey your message and may not continue onto a 2nd post. This includes links. Note: you can remove board/thread names from the end of Alcryst URLs and they will still function so long as the ID number is intact. For example, http://alcryst.forums.net/board/1 is a functioning link despite the removal of the board name.
V. The adbox shows up to 20 posts. There may only be 1 visible post advertising the same event at a time. Therefore, you may repost the same promotion once your original post expires. You may also delete and repost your advertisement, effectively bumping it to the top, once a week at most.
VI. To delete a post, click on the X to the far right of your post. To edit one, hover your cursor over your post and select the "edit" option that appears. Deleted posts disappear immediately without confirmation and are not retrievable. Edited posts say [edited] to the left of their timestamp.
VII.Classifieds contains a comprehensive list of what may be advertised as well as additional solicitation options.

Winter until ##/##/##
Winter has frosted Alcryst like the cold blush of a corpse, hardening every surface with frigid ice searing through the depths of its heart. The plants are lethargic and slow, the sky is desaturated and dull, and the wind is a violent gale ripping apart flesh and soil alike.

Alcryst is a bloodthirsty land wrought with peril and opportunity alike. Those daring enough may venture into its gallows to wage war on its hostile wildlife, stalking and slaying mighty beasts in pursuit of their own redemptions. The spoils of victory can be sweet and plentiful... but your prey may disagree on who is truly being hunted.
Quests may be undertaken by any adult character, which is 36 years old for humans and 8 for horses. Both species may partake in quests. Humans may utilize tamed horses as their allies but wild horses may not fight alongside tamed horses or humans unless their alliance, even temporary, can be realistically explained.
Roleplayers may not play more than one character in each quest. Characters may not partake in more than one quest at a time.
Quest parties consist of one or more characters, although larger hunting parties have a higher success rate and less casualties. Likewise, the more prepared, experienced, rehearsed, and well-equipped the party is, the better they will likely fare.
A quest can occur in any outskirts or wilderness board, its general terrain shaping the type of beast you will encounter, such as aquatic, lava or fire centric, winged, etc. Quests are immune to any intervention of other characters until the monster is slain but are open to infiltration upon its demise, at which point participants are again vulnerable to the various dangers of Alcryst--such as capture for a wild horse or attack for a human.
The beasts slain in quests are created and chosen through Contribution, where members can design quest beasts for compensation.
The goal of any quest is to defeat an individual beast of varying size and strength. The difficulty of the monster is distinguished by the following classes: weak, moderate, and difficult. The harder it is to kill, the more profit your victory will yield, but the higher your chance of injury or casualty and the longer it will take to defeat. Challenging a quest higher than you can reasonably conquer almost guarantees failure, often at steep cost.
Your earnings vary based on the creature you hunt, which is randomly selected from a pool of applicable monsters, as dictated by the terrain you are hunting in and the difficulty you've selected. Prizes are granted by the gods, who place these monsters as their personal challenge for worthy champions to overcome and prove their skill. Spoils may consist of any of the following, with more quantity and value to the higher difficulties:
To initiate a quest, post in Invocation with the board of your choice, the difficulty you desire, and the tagged IC accounts of all party participants. A staff member will then make a quest thread in your chosen board cataloging the difficulty and party member names using the label "Quest."
Once the quest thread is created, any party member may begin the hunt with a general 200-400 IC post. In this post, the character is seeking a monster and details should be kept fairly vague. Once this first entry is posted, the monster will appear in a pop-up. Please ensure you do not have pop-ups disabled and give the page time to load. If you have spent a fair amount of time waiting for the pop-up, please scroll up and check the very top of the page, as it may load there. Any glitches should be immediately reported in Inquisitions with as much detail as possible, including the browser you were using, any error messages, screenshots if possible, what actions you were doing when the error occurred, and anything else possibly relevant. This pop-up will include a picture of the randomly-generated monster, a description of its arrival, details of its bounty if defeated, its total health, a link to its contribution thread, and credit to its creator. When finished, click on the pop-up for it to disappear. Its content will be appended to your post for everyone to view.
After the monster has appeared, it can be attacked. In "Write Reply," there is now a button next to "Create Post" called "Attack." In order to attack the target, write a 200-400 word post detailing how your character attacks it and select the new "Attack" button instead of hitting "Create Post." This will generate one of four outcomes: a miss, a weak attack, a decent attack, or a strong attack. The higher the difficulty of the monster you are fighting, the higher your chance of missing is. As you do not know the result of your attack until you have posted, powerplay cannot be used and all actions should be left open-ended for each possible conclusion. The outcome, which is first revealed to the poster in a pop-up, will be appended to the post for all to see.
The party may now begin attacking in an established posting order at their discretion. If you do not wish to attack the monster, such as to strategize, block/dodge, or otherwise avoid attacking, you can use the "Create Post" button, though your word count may still not exceed 400. Every time the creature is successfully hit, its health will diminish until it is killed. Once it is killed, as alerted by a pop-up that is then appended to the killing post, all roleplaying must cease. Staff must be alerted through Invocation so the rewards can be distributed to all party members. After the prizes are received, party members may resume posting, finishing the fight with the monster's death and any other interaction they desire. The thread will be archived when requested by the participants.
Party members have 7 days to respond when it becomes their turn in the posting order. If they fail to post within 7 days, they are expelled from the quest and the remaining party members may forfeit or continue without them.
Quests may be forfeited at any time with no consequence to the fleeing member(s). However, any injuries already received are not removed if the victim flees and no compensation will be received.
Monster health is randomly determined by the difficulty of the monster. Easy creatures can have anywhere from 100 to 300 health, moderate may have anywhere from 300 to 500, and hard may have anywhere from 500 to 750.
Attacks are randomly generated from 10 to 100, or 0 if you miss. They cannot be predicted or influenced apart from difficult monsters being harder to hit. Party members may utilize any defenses and offenses at their disposal, including teammates, weapons, armor, horseshoes, companions, messengers, powers, potions, and other preparations. For plot purposes, weaknesses described in the monster's contribution thread can be played on for IC flow and intrigue but will not affect the effectiveness of the actual attack.
Successful quest totals are recorded in your mini-profile and reaching 15 victories will emblazon your mini-profile with the "QUEST BADGE NAME" badge for prestige.
Party members may be attacked by the monster at random. If they are charged by the monster, it will be indicated in one of the pop-ups that occur after their post while attacking the monster. This note will inform the poster they've been attacked by the beast and that staff must be informed through Invocation. Once alerted, staff will review the current context of the fight and choose a likely result based on it. After the way the creature is attacking your character is established, the staff member will roll a 3-sided dice to determine the severity of the outcome, with 1 being the least severe and 3 being the most. Finally, staff will post the final outcome to the monster's attack on your character; how they attacked, whether or not your character was indeed injured, and what the injury is. All injuries will be recorded in the character's "Ailment" field in their mini-profile and must be regarded in the fight and in all roleplaying thereafter until healed. Party members will only be killed in extreme scenarios; for example, a single character taking on a hard-level beast with no additional aids or items, low stats, no experience, poor preparation, and otherwise complete carelessness.
alchemy has specific quests when alchemining, perhaps reference that? it happens only in the wilderness categories - they get both the alchemining and questing label
btw make the label questing, not quest
6/19/18 link to an example thread, perhaps? not sure if the thread already says it but all quest beasts come from contributions I am not going to allow swarms, only individual beasts going to award higher max health based on what they come in with, maybe? that way they can handle the harder quests now that creatures can attack
base groups in the plugin on terrain types
edit contribution quest tab if things change
easy, medium, hard, expert - only allowed to get the highest, rarest items from expert, like incorporeal ingredient (maybe, if I feel like editing alchemy lol), companion, armor/weapon material, whatever. That can be chosen by a dice roll after success from expert.
August 2018 The alchemy procedures alchemining section says the label is "Questing" (and "Alchemining") (not Quest) so change that if I change the label
remove the references to what to do about glitches and move that into inquisitions
october 2018 " You must also notify the chosen contribution creator by posting in their thread with a link to your crop thread." type of sentence for the mark creatures
january 2019 milestone badge does not say "quests cannot occur simultaneously" because I think that is the official rule of quests in general. if it isn't, go add that rule into the badge
