While much of the Effervescent Torrent lived up supremely well to the latter part of its name, there were areas which could boast a much calmer, more genteel manner. It was by one such portion that Cyras found himself now, having followed the flow of the rapids for a good part of the day. He had no particular destination in mind; much as he had no real plan in mind for the afternoon. Few responsibilities and fewer commitments made the slight man lax in planning his time, most days. No, rather he had fancied some peace and quiet, so had taken his leave from the city and headed for the comparative calm of the outskirts.
So it was that the young human found himself following a branch of the torrent to where it settled down into a quiet pond. Trees bordered the body of water, forming a thick enough cover that whatever lay beyond them could not be discerned. Colour reigned supreme, shades of green foliage and azure water interspersed with fruits of all hues, weighing down weary boughs. Padding towards a nearby tree, Cyras reached up a hand and plucked a small, orange fruit from a low-hanging branch. Glancing up at the leaves, he took note of their size and shape, before returning his focus to the spherical object in his hand. Turning the item, he examined it briefly before nodding and lifting it to his lips, with every intention of taking a bite.
What he missed, however, was the crack that split the orange skin on the other side of the fruit. Revealing the flesh to be a pale grey within, as opposed to the characteristic flame red of the species that he had mistaken it for.
