Contests are any type of competition hosted by an equine character on the site in which there are at least 2 participants owned by different roleplayers. They may range from violent, such as combat, to stereotypical, such as jumping, all the way into the unconventional, like a battle of wits or challenge of balance.
Your character must be at least 8 years old to host a contest.
To host a contest, you must pay the Expanse 20 spirits, allowing it to draw upon god-touched magic to transform a section of its land into whatever your contest needs. For example, the land could morph into a racetrack or an arena. Make a thread in Invocation to initiate the process; a staff member will deduct the funds from your IC account and you may proceed with creating your competition in Delusive Expanse with the label "Contest." All posts regarding your contest will occur within this thread; the first post(s) should be created by the host(s) and contain all information regarding the event, followed by the IC posts of participants/bystanders for the duration of the thread. The last post may be an official conclusion by the host.
It is your responsibility to explain the contest thoroughly and clearly, regulate the participants, enforce all rules you've declared, and provide any prizes. You should always clarify if bystanders are allowed to post observing the contest or if only contestants are allowed in the thread. Staff will not oversee or intervene with your event unless you specifically approach them with an issue only they can solve.
You may expel, fine, or even imprison participants if they violate a rule for which you very blatantly stated a punishment, as they agreed to any potential consequences by accepting your terms when they signed up. In order to prevent misdirection, changes may not be made to the contest after it has received its first contender, so enrollment should not be opened until you are confident that the information has been written fully and plainly. Staff will monitor the edit timestamps at the bottom right of your post to ensure the post was not modified past the allowed period. If you need to fix something grammatical or minor that will not affect contestants, notify staff in Invocation to receive written permission beforehand. Posts that require editing such as a roster can be made as a 2nd post in the thread.
Information to consider establishing includes a summary introduction, entry requirements, posting order, word minimums and/or limits, prizes, grounds for punishment, audience permissions, any betting systems, any psychedelic plant distributions from Prism Grove, time limits, advertising or referral incentives, IC setup descriptions, start and/or end date(s), age or other physical restrictions, rank requirements, ticket fees, or maximum capacities. This list does not cover every possible topic nor are you required to cover all of these topics, they are only general suggestions.
While prizes may be monetary, you might also expand into art, real money, items, discounts, or even herd acceptance. Anything that fits the site rules is allowed so long as it funded by the host or through some other appropriate source, like a donation pool or fundraiser.
Winners must receive some type of image representing their victory, whether it is a trophy, ribbon, or something unorthodox like a crystal or plant, to be placed in their mini-profile under the "Items" tab. The host may provide their own images (no wider than 140 pixels) or they may use the following generic trophies & ribbons provided by the site:
You may advertise through our classifieds, the IC Newsletter, an IC thread via character-to-character interaction, our adbox in the lefthand sidetable in the tab beside the cbox, or the "Promotion" field in your account under edit profile > personal. It is your job to make intriguing incentives and spread awareness, as a poorly-conceived event is unlikely to attract attention.
When the contest ends, the host is responsible for posting in Invocation listing the winners, their prizes, and either the link to each custom reward image or choosing which generic site-provided reward images they wish to use. If there are any additional outcomes that require staff intervention, such as a loser penalty, they should be included. The contest thread will then be archived unless otherwise requested.
The site will periodically host its own contests here with staff acting as hosts. On these occasions, their thread will be stickied along with a spotlight in our Vital Links sidetable and solicitation through both a Mass PM and the "Alerts Menu" in the lefthand sidetable.
