The Hacienda

The life of a farmer is difficult, requiring strategy, determination, and patience. However, the twisted road promises gold, effort rewarded with high demand and even higher profits. The work is humble, laboring in marshes, jungles, even the very sky to nurture a wide variety of fantastical nature, but the yields are worth the troves of kings.

Crops are grown from 3 types of seeds purchased from the Hacienda's catalog, each varying in how fast they grow, their maintenance requirements, and their price. Though their sole purpose is to feed cattle as described in the adjacent tab, they may still be sold, traded, or gifted if desired. Correctly coordinating the growth of crops and maturation of cattle is a critical part of farming.
You can also purchase and plant treats and organic alchemical ingredients. They follow the same overall growth process outlined in this tab but have a few specific differences which are explained in their catalog item descriptions. Treats and ingredients are not used for cattle but are rather sold independently; ingredients are central to alchemy and treats offer stat upgrades for their consumer. Treats cannot be consumed by humans. Farmers must choose which specific stat field the treat will upgrade, which may not be altered later. Throughout this thread, the term "crops" also includes treats and ingredients.
Planted crops are recorded in stickied threads made by staff within your farm. By default, they are created in your main board, but you may request a different location if preferred. Crop threads do not affect the IC appearance of your farm; plants grown together in the same thread can be in separate physical IC locations, such as some in a garden and others in a pond acres apart. Crop threads are established purely by their initial planting date and their type of seed item. Their sole purpose is to keep accurate OOC record of when the plants need to be tended and when they can be harvested, as explained below.
Crops must come from the same type of seed item in order to be planted together. If they are treats, then they all must upgrade the same stat field, such as "strength." If they are ingredients, then they all must be the same specific ingredient, such as "presence." An overall farm can hold up to 50 total crops per small manufacturing spell purchased from the Caravan at a time.
You must use a plant contribution for your crops. The author must allow crop use. Even if the crops come from the same type of seed item and are recorded together in the same staff-made thread, they may still have different contributions.
A crop thread's initial post details the type of seed item, a link to their contribution(s), the date they were planted, the type of fertilizer utilized, the number of crops, the dates they must be tended, and the dates they can be harvested. If growing alchemy ingredients, then a link to their unlock is also listed, as explained in the alchemy system. If the thread receives any penalties as described in the below process, they will edited into the first post.
Planting:

To plant a new group of crops, you must first purchase 1 of the 3 fertilizer items from a Galleria merchant. Next, post in Invocation specifying which fertilizer item you are applying, the type and quantity of seeds, and a link to the contribution(s) you have chosen. If you are planting alchemy ingredients, then include a link to where you acquired the initial unlock. Staff will remove the relevant items and create a stickied thread in your farm.
You must also notify the chosen contribution creator by posting in their thread with a link to your crop thread.
The date that the plants will be fully grown is based on both the type of seed and the fertilizer used. If you are growing a treat or alchemy ingredient, it will also affect the growth rate.
Once planted, you cannot add, remove, or otherwise modify crops in that specific thread.

Tending:

"Tending" is a general term representing any action(s) required for the maintenance of your crops, which is mandatory for the contribution creator to declare. This may be watering, weeding, or a less orthodox process chosen by the contribution's creator.
Crops must be tended every few days. The number of days is determined by the type of seed item. Staff will list which dates the crops must be tended in the first post. The tending process is not affected if a contribution stipulates multiple actions; they can be completed all at once in a single tending post or alternate through the various dates, depending on the creator's rules.
You have 48 hours to tend your crop thread; the day before and the day of your tending date. If you fail to post within 48 hours, you will be penalized with the loss of 5% of your crops (rounded down) currently remaining in the corresponding staff-made thread. You may not tend to a crop thread early. You may notify staff of a missed tending date through Invocation to have your crop thread edited immediately, otherwise the loss of crops will be added during a staff members pre-harvest review.
The first tending date is always the day after your crops are initially planted.
To tend a crop thread, make an IC post consisting of at least 50 words describing your farmer tending to the plants however their contribution dictates.

Harvesting:

When your crops are ready to be harvested, as stated from the thread's first post, you are permitted 7 days to write a 200-400 word IC post describing your farmer gathering and storing their plants. You are penalized with the loss of 5% of your crops (rounded down) currently remaining in the corresponding staff-made thread every 24 hours after your last harvest date.
Afterward, post in Invocation to alert staff. A staff member will add the crop items to your occupational storage as described in our Stealing and Battling guide, which is mandatory for all farmers to read. Lastly, staff will archive the emptied crop thread into a designated board in your farm's records sub-sub-board.
Crops may be used to feed cattle once they are officially stored. You may sell, trade, or gift crop items as desired.

[PTab=Cattle]

Cattle are sold by farmers to be meals for tamed horses or for sacrificial prayers in the Seraphic Cathedral. They are acquired from 4 types of cattle items purchased from the Hacienda's catalog, each varying in how fast they mature, how often they must be fed, how many meals they provide, their perks, and their price.
Cattle must be the same item type in order to be raised together. An overall farm can hold up to 10 total cattle per small manufacturing spell at a time. As with crops, cattle are recorded in a stickied thread made by staff.
You must use a creature contribution for your cattle. The author must allow cattle use. Even if the cattle are recorded together in the same staff-made thread, they may still have different contributions.
A cattle thread's initial post details the type of cattle item, a link to their contribution(s), the date you began raising them, the number of cattle, the dates they must be fed, and the date they are fully matured. If the thread receives any penalties as described in the below process, they will edited into the first post.
Raising:

To begin raising a new group of cattle, you must post in Invocation specifying the type and quantity of cattle and a link to the contribution(s) you have chosen. If you are adding the item "accelerant" from Galleria, you must inform staff and link to the purchase receipt thread. Staff will remove the relevant items and create a stickied thread in your farm.
You must also notify the chosen contribution creator by posting in their thread with a link to your cattle thread.
The date that a group of cattle will be fully matured is based on both the type of item purchased and if the item "accelerant" is applied.
Once a cattle thread is created, you cannot add, remove, or otherwise modify cattle in that specific thread.

Feeding:

Cattle must be fed every few days. The number of days is determined by the type of cattle item. Staff will list which dates the cattle must be fed in the first post. You must provide 1 crop for every individual creature in your cattle thread.
To feed your cattle, make an IC post consisting of at least 50 words describing your farmer feeding the animals. Post in Invocation after each feeding so that staff can remove the crop item(s) from your occupational storage.
You have 48 hours to feed your cattle thread; the day before and the day of your feeding date. If you fail to post within 48 hours, you will be penalized with the loss of 5% of your cattle (rounded down) currently remaining in the corresponding staff-made thread. You may not tend to a cattle thread early. You may notify staff of a missed feeding date through Invocation to have your cattle thread edited immediately, otherwise the loss of cattle will be added during a staff members pre-maturation review.
The first feeding date is always the day after you begin raising your cattle.

Maturation:

When your cattle are fully grown, as stated from the thread's first post, post in Invocation to alert staff. A staff member will add the cattle items to your occupational storage. Lastly, staff will archive the emptied cattle thread into a designated board in your farm's records sub-sub-board. There are no time restrictions on reporting matured cattle.

Cattle do not need to be slaughtered by farmers or IC. If preferred, your character can utilize a pain-free method through magic, fade-to-black as described in our Central Laws, leave the transition unsaid through the natural OOC implication that the cattle is deceased upon transfer, or leave the action entirely to the customer.

[PTab=Farmers]

Farms are the individual shops run by human characters in the Hacienda. Each one receives its own sub-board in the Hacienda's main board.
Follow the procedures in Caravan to build your farm and thus become a farmer.
To purchase from the Hacienda catalog, make a thread in Hacienda with the label "Purchase" naming which item(s) you wish to buy. Both IC and OOC posts are accepted but the items must be written as an OOC note if you write an IC post. Next, post in Invocation to alert staff. Only farmers may buy from the Hacienda's catalog.
Every farm board includes a "records" sub-sub-board where all of its completed transaction threads are locked and transferred as receipts. The records board has an additional board within it for the archival of emptied crop and cattle threads. If the farm itself is ever archived, its receipt threads will be moved to the main Hacienda records and labeled with the ex-farmer character's name for customers to easily access. By clicking on the label, it will sort the threads to only show threads sharing the same label, allowing customers to quickly search through the farmer's previous records.
You must log your records in Scrolls, as described in the Faewin Lawbook, which is mandatory to read. Alcryst's Scrolls site was coded from scratch by Brynora and hosted by her realistic SIM, Elite Equestrian.
Farmers may set up their shop and services at their discretion, including but not limited to: loyalty programs, discounts, sales, customer contracts, catalogs, specialties, whether transactions should occur IC or OOC, acceptable forms of compensation, any possible payment plans, purchasing forms, rules for IC behavior, and prices.
Farmers may use their own stock. Therefore, if a farmer grows a treat, they are permitted feed a tamed horse without further payment. You may not show favoritism to your other characters by offering them free or heavily discounted merchandise unless there is a valid IC reason, such as a fair business agreement with mutual advantages or another appropriate arrangement. Essentially, you may not treat your other characters any differently than you would treat a character you do not own. If arranging an appropriate discount or other unique circumstance that applies solely to one of your characters, such as a discount for exchanged services, then it must be approved by administration through Inquisitions.
Ownership of a single farm may be split between multiple farmers if each partner signs a contract through a lawyer to be added to their Certification threads. Co-owners must qualify for business ownership as detailed in the Caravan. All partners must contribute to the costs and receive a share of the profits in some form, as decided by the participants. Other terms may be negotiated, such as activity requirements, exit clauses, probationary periods, expiration dates if the ownership is temporary, percentages of each character's ownership, responsibility distributions, and other stipulations. Staff must be informed which of the partners should be granted moderator abilities over the farm, if not all of them; moderator abilities can be bestowed on a farm-wide basis or only on specific sub-sub-boards. Terms may be redeclared at any point through an updated lawyer contract and new owners may be later added or previous owners removed. Split ownership can be as balanced as partners or as disproportional as a boss and employee.
If all owners of a farm are away, following the rules of Voids, then the owner(s) may designate a caretaker character to tend crop threads, harvest crops, and feed cattle during their absence. They are not permitted to sell or use any merchandise; they are akin to babysitters and do not wield actual power. Caretakers must give public consent to the duty and are not held responsible for any dates missed unless otherwise agreed to in a contract made by a lawyer. If any owners of a farm do not currently have a valid away status, then the farm cannot utilize a caretaker. All terms can be negotiated between the owner(s) and caretaker, such as any compensation. Only 1 caretaker can be utilized per farm. Caretakers must publicly consent each separate instance that they take over the farm's duties and farmers may switch caretakers at their discretion.
When a transaction thread is completed, post in Invocation for the distribution of items and compensation. If there are multiple farmers involved, you must explain how profits should be divided following your contract's terms.
You may advertise your services in the "adbox" in the left-hand sidetable beside the cbox, the IC Newsletter, the homepage footer's classifieds, through character interaction via standard roleplaying, and in the field "promotion" in your account under edit profile > personal.
